Therese Iknoian, MS , is an exercise physiologist, former nationally ranked race walker, and internationally published freelance health and fitness writer whose work has appeared in Trail Runner, Men's Health, Fitness, Women's Day, Shape, and Parenting , among others. She is also the cofounder and coeditor of the GearTrends Network with a Web site (GearTrends.com), trade magazines, and a news service (SNEWS) specializing in the outdoor, fitness, and sports markets. As a race walker, Iknoian won numerous awards, including two silver medals at the 1993 and 1994 National Masters Track & Field Championships. In 1994, she broke the world record for her age group in the indoor 3-kilometer racewalk. Iknoian has authored two books on walking, Fitness Walking and Walking Fast , and has developed walking and fitness programs for several international companies, including Polar, Nike, and Star Trac. She is a gold-certified instructor by the American Council on Exercise and is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine as a health and fitness instructor. She is a member of the IDEA association for fitness professionals and has been a featured presenter at past conventions.
