Diese Pluralit�t gilt seit Mitte der siebziger Jahre f�r viele als Herausforderung f�r Schulpraxis, Bildungspolitik, P�dagogik. Welche Strategien entwickeln nationale und regionale Bildungssysteme sowie Einzelschulen, um sich auf die verschiedenen Formen der Mehrsprachigkeit und der Heterogenit�t der Schulklassen einzustellen? Wie verh�lt sich die Praxis zu den rhetorischen Diskursen? Den Kern dieser empirischen Untersuchung bilden sechs Fallstudien in Deutschland, Frankreich, Italien sowie drei Schweizer Kantonen. Die Grundausrichtung eines Schulsystems (integrativ oder trennend und selektiv) ist daf�r entscheidend, wie die sprachliche und soziokulturelle Vielfalt wahrgenommen wird: als Teil einer heute �normalen� Heterogenit�t oder aber als �St�rung�, die getrennter Unterrichtsangebote bedarf. Die Pluralit�t ist nicht das Spezialgebiet einer �interkulturellen Erziehung�, sondern eine unverzichtbare Aufgabe der Schule, Bildung und P�dagogik.
