Por ello, la atenci�n a estos peque�os constituye un problema de salud p�blica mundial. OBJETIVO. Elaborar una propuesta de acci�n para la reducci�n de factores maternos relacionados con el bajo peso al nacer. METODOLOGIA. Se realiz� estudio prospectivo descriptivo para caracterizar el comportamiento del bajo peso al nacer y su relaci�n con causas maternas predisponentes, de 123 reci�n nacidos bajo peso que se compararon con igual n�mero de neonatos con peso igual o superior a 2500 gramos, durante los a�os 2001 al 2007, procedentes del �rea de salud de Milan�s de Matanzas. Entre las variables estudiadas se se�ala edad materna, valoraci�n nutricional y ganancia de peso, antecedentes obst�tricos, enfermedad materna asociada y h�bito de fumar. Los resultados y conclusiones podr�n leerse en este libro.
