La "Memoria Operativa" (MO) se ha convertido en un concepto central en los modelos sobre el funcionamiento cognitivo, consider�ndose una de las fuentes de las diferencias individuales y evolutivas. Se conocen bien las relaciones entre la MO y la inteligencia, el razonamiento o la comprensi�n lectora, pero no qu� factores las explican; en parte, por la dificultad para determinar la naturaleza general o espec�fica de la MO y la ausencia de un modelo te�rico unitario que integre las distintas evidencias recabadas. Este libro pretende arrojar alguna luz sobre las relaciones entre la MO y las habilidades cognitivas superiores a partir de una doble contribuci�n te�rico-aplicada. En lo te�rico, propone un modelo integrador sobre el funcionamiento de la MO que intenta reinterpretar y articular las principales conceptualizaciones vigentes. En lo aplicado, presenta un nuevo procedimiento de medida que prolonga el paradigma cl�sico de doble-tarea con una segunda medida de recuerdo "contextualizado". El objetivo es lograr un �ndice de MO "en funcionamiento" de mayor validez "ecol�gica", al ser sensible tanto a los procesos de una MO transitoria como a los de una posible MO a largo plazo.
