Why are critics of the far right called evil?
Why is it when you don't agree with the far, far, far right, that you are evil? This is a common theme I see emerging. Not only are you wrong, but you are evil. Or, if not evil, then unamerican or unpatriotic. The reason is simply, the far, far right (and this author is definately that) sees society through purely black/white terms and you better believe they know they are on the side of apple pie, Chevies and moms. Ok, I can take someone stating I am wrong. I can take someone who states my values are a bit off. Fine, but to state that what I believe in is evil?!
I am an atheist who supports gay rights. Is atheism or "militant" atheism evil? Is homosexuality evil? I don't believe in a deity, that is evil in any sense? My support of church/state seperation, is evil? My gay sister who harms no one, is evil? Or, is it just her the woman that she loves is evil? See, if someone disagrees with me I don't believe they are evil. I think Pat Robertson is way wrong on pretty much anything, but evil? No. Newt Gingrich, wrong but not evil. So to Sarah Palin, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck etc. Well, Fred "God hates f-gs" Phelps might be evil. It is hard to have discourse with with a group who thinks not only are you wrong but you are literally doing the work of the mythical devil. So, if you want to vent your hate against the "evil" secular left in America, this book is for you.
