Another great book! Spiller writes in a style unlike modern writers. He seldom uses the word "I" except to note his presence in a hunting situation; and, he is witty and considerate of Grouse, Woodcock, dogs and men. Spiller brings unique insights in upland hunting skills and knowledge; yet, they are interwoven in stories that may bring a tear to the eye in one paragraph, and an out-loud laugh in another. I read his work for the first time this year and am now addicted.

Beautiful, gorgeous, breathtaking!!
My goodness, even the shipping label was so neat i couldn't bear to open it before i gave it to Dave for his birthday. the book was packaged exquisitely for shipping and the gift brought a misty smile to the recipient's countenance. the book is in such beautiful condition and i was so happy to be able to give a gift that meant so much to my beloved. he is making a handmade display case for this volume while still lending out his paperback copy. i know that when winter sets in he will sit by the fire with a fine red wine, reading glasses resting gently upon his nose, pup at his feet and read himself back into this story. i believe that for him the tale brings back to memory our now-deceased and sorely missed black labrador Gator, the many days they shared in the field, and the pickup rides back home to the farm. we miss him dearly and this book helps salve the wounds of loss. when expressing your love to someone, it is attention to detail, the element of surprise and the ability to deliver the unexpected that can make all the difference, and sometimes say what you can find no words for. thank you for the blessing of this book. happy trails to everyone - love, elizabeth
