Burton spiller is known for his wonderful books on grouse hunting and bird dogs. At first I was very apprehensive to find out that this book, except for one story, had very little to do with grouse hunting. I couldnt understand why spiller would write a book about firemen, storms and bear hunting. At first I was very disapointed when I received the book and even entertained thoughts about reselling it to recover some of what I had invested in it. Fortunately I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt and read it through before I got rid of it, at least that way I could say I had read it if anyone ever asked. so, one evening I sat back in my favorite reading chair, and decided to force my way through it. It didn't take too long before my opinion had begun to change. I saw the same qualities in this book that I had seen in the others. The strength of his writing became apparent in his ability to see the wonderous things in the simple things that might be otherwised overlooked by a lesser writer. The heart of the spiller masterpeice came off the pages as I followed in the adventures that he was leading me into. I regret to admit that I doubted spiller for even a moment. He has never let me down before, and I can honestly say that, after reading Firelight, he still has not. This is a treasure that will find a welcome home on my bookshelf for years to come.
