With everybody firing off their nuclear weapons the world becomes a place where life itself can no longer exist. Gradually the cloud of death works its way south from the northern latitudes. The story, set in Australia, follows the lives of people unable to accept the inevitable until the bleak ending. There is no happy ending. This book should be required reading for all, especially those with their fingers on the button. Stop and think. Not what will be the immediate result of my actions, but what will be the long term outcome for all mankind ?

Classic Book
I had never read this novel, nor watched the movie. The story, written years ago, could be from now. The book is timeless. I have read many of Nevil Shute's books, but this one really stands out & I will never forget it.

Great Story
Very good novel. Had me thinking about what could have happened in a nuclear global war.
