Well written historical fiction. I never knew of the "in's and out's" of servants during this time. Not only did I enjoy the read, I enjoyed learning more about the time period. Well done!

Servanthood
One of my favourite authors. I'm never disappointed. I read this in a day, and now I have to wait another year for her next book.
This one was set in South Carolina during the turn of the last century, in the home (castle) of the Vanderbilts. Tille is a parlormaid there. She must train a tough mountainman to become a servant. There are undeniable sparks between them, but romances among the staff are strictly forbidden. They also uncover a problem at the local orphanage and soon learn what true servanthood means. It was interesting to learn about the life of a servant during those times, and how truly considerate the Vanderbilts were toward their staff. It was unheard of in that day.
And Gist can write steamy scenes where no one even takes their clothes off. The scene were Tillie measures Mack for a shirt....WELL!
