This was a humorous love story about an earl's daughter, who is kidnapped and taken to Virginia to be sold as a tobacco bride. It may sound far-fetched, but it is well done. An amazing story of the hard life faced by the early settlers, the conflicts with the Indians, infant mortality and illness in the new land, and tobacco farming. The main conflict between Constance and Drew has to do with how each believes the other will not accept them because they are from different social classes. It was also steamy, in its' own way.

Brilliant Book!
Although this is Deeanne Gist's first novel, I believe it's her best. It immediatlely hooked me when in the first few pages the main charachter was kidnapped and sent over-seas to the new world to be sold as a bride. This book has interesting characters with a plot that has many unexpected bumps in the road that kept me intrigued. Don't worry, it doesn't just fade off, but ends with just as much action that it started off with (if not more) to give the story a well deserved ending. Loved it!

Gist's breakout novel, that follows one woman's journey to the New World of American in the 1600's, couldn't have been more enthralling. I was always taught that the puritans were rather boring, but not through the eyes of Gist. Those that like inspirational historical love stories will definitely want to take a chance on this one.
