This book gives a clear understanding of the technique of 'stillness meditation' espoused by Ainslie Meares, an eminent Australian psychiatrist, who travelled extensively throughout the world exploring the underlying mechanisms whereby faith healers. gurus. medicine men and the like could ease pain and suffering without resource to drugs.
As an interesting side effect, he found that this form of meditation boosted the immune response to cancer, and a proportion of his patients were able to survive otherwise fatal secondary cancer with good quality of life.
