Part of any art is the language and terminology that helps to define it. This book gives good information on trems that will be encountered as one learns about photography.

Quick Study
Getty Institute researcher does a great job of defining technical terms, but the bonus here is not only accuracy, clarity and brevity in that department, but also an engaging and unusual selection of illustrations, including (rare in this type of book) color photographs. With Gilles Mora's PHOTOSPEAK and Alan Trachtenberg's collection of historic writings on photography, a must have for any photo enthusiast or writer who has to do with photography. There is a newer edition: get the newest you can for most digital camera-related terminology, but if primarily interested in older types of photography, such as calotypes and so forth, this edition is just fine.
