A standard for the beginning medieval cook
This is considered a standard resource for anyone wishing to recreate medieval recipes. However, while it was the best thing around when it came out many years ago, the more advanced medievalist now may find it insufficiently authentic. With so many authentic medieval and Renaissance cookery books in print (Sent Sovi, Bartolomeo Scappi's Opera, and many others), it's possible to own a fairly complete library of medieval and Renaissance cook books and redact one's own recipes. But if you aren't a culilnary history buff, if all you need is something to help you do a small medieval dinner for some special occasion (Robin Hood's birthday? Party for a D&D fan?), this is the go-to reference.
