What are Chosen Classics? The dictionary defines a classic as "of the first or highest class or rank...of literary or historical renown." A Chosen Classic by our definition is a book of first quality that through high Christian content and teaching continues to minister to people world-wide. Some Chosen Classics were first published in the last century; some as recently as ten years ago. The selection is based on their timeless truths and spiritual depth. All have been carefully edited and updated for modern readers. The Editors of Chosen Books. MOVIE TIE-IN: This book was the basis for the 1970 feature film of the same name. SYNOPSIS: One fateful night in 1958, a skinny country preacher named David Wilkerson opened a copy of Life Magazine to a picture of seven teenage boys on trial for murder. As he looked at their desperate faces, a sudden conviction possessed him that he must go to New York City--where he had never set foot to help these youngsters. The trip opened David's eyes to problems he hadn't known existed, problems that were defeating the best human wisdom, the most determined human efforts. A quarter of a century later The Cross and the Switchblade continues to inspire as the story of the triumph of faith over the forces of evil. There is nothing vague about the power of the Holy Spirit as it is experienced in this battle. The Cross and the Switchblade has been a text book to millions in the practical application of Christian belief to problems of daily living that face us all.
My husband owned this book many years ago, and lost it during a move. So I decided to go on a quest to find the book that he spoke SO highly of. And I found it while on Alibris! I was over the moon and ordered it the day I found it. It arrived ahead of schedule, which was an awesome surprise for my husband! And the book was brand new! I LOVE Alibris, and I will shop here often and recommend the site to all of my friends and family!

The Uncomfortable Fifties
I think this book is valuable more for what it implies about US society in the fifties than for its methodology to deal with problems. If one compares the nascent criminal landscape of the fifties, seemingly confined within the socio-economic ghettos of the times with what authorities encounter nowadays throughout society, we realize that there is no real difference. It's just a matter of degree. The good old days are merely old and their "good" exists in there being fewer casualties per hundred than there are today.

Rejoyce
This is not a new book and not a new message. But it 's fresh and powerful and full of encouragement that any life can be changed when submitted to the Lord Jesus Christ. The fact that the author is still active and successful in this dynamic ministry attests to the validity of the message. Many lives continue to be transformed through the Teen Challenge centers all over teh U.S. To God be the glory.
