I had never heard of the fairytale before. I loved the story, though it was hard to get started. Her style of writing is wonderful!

Wonderful
This was a charming little tale! Probably one of my favorite fairy tale retelling?s. The story was very through, but still light, not bogged down by unnessary information. Hall?s language was lyrical and pleasant to read. By far, it had my favorite story book prince, though I couldn't say why. I really enjoyed this book and could see myself reading it to a daughter one day. [close]

Wonderful Fairy Tale adaptation
Even though Ani will one day be queen, she is considered strange by almost everyone in the castle. She talks to birds, but does not communicate well with other people. When her father dies, instead of becoming queen as planned, she is forced to leave her country to marry a prince she has never met. Things get even more complicated when her lady's maid decides to take Ani's place and Ani must work as a goose girl while working to take back her rightful place and prevent a war between the two countries. The story moves slowly at times, but overall, it is a very good book.

Fantastic Retelling and Extention of a Classic
Shannon Hale has expertly taken a short fairy tale and turned it into an exciting and intriguing full length novel. The novel answers all the questions that a reader has after reading the original tale. Even if readers have never read the original tale, they will be swept away by the beautiful language, plot twists, and character development. The book is full of excitement with very little down time between plot twists and turns. The reader will be left breathless and the main character a princess by birth and goose girl by trade must find a way to navigate her own happily ever after.
