The text emphasizes ideas instead of isolated facts and shows how research and application work in harmony. Now using seven integrative themes to emphasize the connections between different areas of research in psychology, the text challenges students to grapple with the big issues and tough questions while at the same time helping them master the basic concepts of psychology. Throughout the book, the author emphasizes the unity in psychology's intellectual heritage as well as psychology's immense diversity.

Weiten's text is very comprehensive from an evolutionary psychological viewpoint. Great coverage of the scientific method and its relevance, very well written and explained. It covers a lot of history, theory and application of psychological theories making it a very good textbook - however.....
What it lacks is a culturally and linguistically diverse view of differing worldviews related to psychology - this is essential to be relevant to the vast majority of the world who are not Caucasian, westernized or have the same worldview. A section on cultural anthropological theory, research and practice may be helpful.
It also lacks a section on qualitative psychological research methods as an adjunct to quantitative.
