We all know and love the film. I was inspired to read the book after finding out the author was so shrouded in mystery. I saw the film in passage after passage of text, and saw and understood much more of the themes and circumstances while reading the book. It has a place on my favorites shelf now.

Even better than the movie!
"The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" has always been one of my "Top 10" favorite movies. I still enjoy watching it after dozens of viewings.
Imagine my joy when I discovered that the book was equally compelling, yet had some twists of it's own.
For all fans of the movie, read the BOOK!! I promise you will be glad that you did.

Great Stuff
If you love the movie, you will love this book. As with most adaptations, this book differs from the movie in many aspects, but if you're like me, that only makes this book more enjoyable. B. Traven takes a pretty simple plot and introduces the reader to three great characters with the same goal in mind, yet each man is completely different. The author doesn't waste a single word, his writing is clean and precise, and at the same time humoress and tragic. The men he writes about are flawed and unrefined yet you can't help but chear for them as they search for a cache of gold. The backdrop is post-WWI Mexico teeming with American's looking for work in the oil fields, as well as gold in the rugged Mexican mountains. This book is a classic and B. Traven should be heaped uopn the top shelf of great american authors.
