I Love This Art Book!
As an art teacher, I am always looking for art books that I can use as resources for designing lessons for my students. Over the years I have found many art books that just skim the surface, not really teaching much beyond showcasing the author-artist's artwork. It is a rare thing to find one book that presents so much useful art instruction in such a clear and understandable way as does the "Complete Guide to Drawing and Painting."
This book begins with basic drawing, composition, and color theory. Then, it moves into colored pencils, pen & ink, charcoal, watercolors, oils, acrylics, and pastels -- and amazingly, does each of these media justice -- all in one book!
What I really like about this book is the beautiful reproductions that provide examples and illustrate each medium and the methods and techniques being presented. The step-by-step instructions are clearly photographed and illustrated, and the large format of the book makes the colors and illustrations even more vibrant and appealing.
I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in studio art, or specifically in learning how to use a new medium. Each area is thorough enough to get you going, then if you decide to embrace that medium, you could move on to another course or book specific to that medium or technique.
Bottom line, anyone who collects studio art books (as I do) will love this gorgeous book!
