This third book in the series, the Chronicles of the Kings, is the final portion dealing with the life of King Hezekiah. The awesome Assyrian army has laid siege to Jerusalem and taunts King Hezekiah and the God of Israel, comparing God to the idols of neighbouring defeated cities. God delivers Israel in a miraculous way and proves that everthing is under His control, even the proud King of Assyria, Sennacherib, who is soundly defeated and later killed. However, we see Hezekiah's frailty as well, as he boasts of the wealth of his kingdom as if God hadn't granted it to him in mercy, and as he seeks to form alliances with other nations instead of relying on God. He is my favourite Old Testament character, and I was sad to see his life end, since he was a great king, and I knew that everything would change when his son, Manasseh took the throne.
