Our church is using this book for a Sunday School class. Personally, I am not reading this book. However, I have perused and approved it with the hopes of students learning about the historical and biblical time period of the kings. I have asked several of the students about the book and I believe it is accomplishing that. It seems to be accurate both biblically and historically but with a fictional story line that helps to maintain interest.

Palace intrigue
This is the first book in the series, the Chronicles of the Kings. I chose it because King Hezekiah is my favourite Old Testament character. While staying true to the narrative, which is critical to Biblical storytelling, Mrs. Austin fleshes out characters who you learn to care about, like Hezekiah and Eliakim, and villains you learn to despise, like King Ahaz or Uriah. This book in particular reveals the fierce cruelty of the rampaging Assyrian army. You also see how KIng Ahaz' sacrifice of his other children to idols, has a profound affect on the future king, Hezekiah. Woven into the story are two love stories, treachery and palace intrigue. It's true that you do almost forget that you know how it ends. I ran out and bought book two right away.
