B. Der T???rkei, Persien, Indien, China (4 bis 5 Millionen Opiumraucher), in Amerika, in England und auch vereinzelt in Deutschland und Frankreich, zu dem chronischen Gebrauche des Opiums als Genuss mittel und somit auch zu der M???glichkeit einer chronischen Opiumvergiftung gef???hrt. Die Opi0phagen verfallen diesem Laster aus denselben Ursachen, wie die Morphinisten. Fehlen der Willenskraft, das Mittel auszusetzen, nachdem sie es zu Heilzwecken ???fters gebraucht haben, sowie das nachahmende Verlangen, sich in jenen angenehmen Exaltationszustand zu versetzen oder auch, wie dies in China bei circa 45% der Opiumraucher der Fall ist, der Wunsch, eine Steigerung der geschlechtlichen Functionen herbeizuf???hren, sind die wesentlichsten Triebfedern jener Menschen f???r den Opiumgenuss. Die Steigerung des geistigen und leiblichen K???nnens soll so ausserordentlich und die gl???henden, gl???nzenden Bilder einer excessiv gesteigerten Phantasie so berauschend sein, dass ein Ablassen von diesem Laster fast zu den Unm???glichkeiten geh???rt. Wesentlich tr???gt jedoch zu dem Beharren in demselben der traurige Zustand bei, in den solche Individuen verfallen, sobald sie den Versuch der Abgew???hnung wagen oder sobald sie die Dosis nicht erh???hen, wenn der Organismus bei der kleineren nicht mehr normal functionirt.
