A moderate workout
Hemalayaa is becoming a force to be reckoned with in the world of celebrity fitness instructors. I imagine this is because her ironic voice-overs reassure the at-home participants that she is in on the joke and that she knows how silly it is when she tells you to "Paint the wall! Now paint yourself!" while doing side-to-side lunges.
That said, her newest addition to her Acacia line of DVDs is solid, even if it's not as exhilarating as some of her previous releases. This workout is 45 minutes divided into a warm-up, 4 workout sections, and a cooldown.
I am an intermediate exerciser, and my lower body is in decent shape as I live in New York and I climb what feels like a million stairs a day during my subway commute. This workout did not fry my glutes, as one might expect. Instead, I am mildly sore in my hamstrings, hip flexors, intercostals, and parts of the glutes. In my opinion this is actually a good thing, as I have experienced some workouts that were so difficult that I could not keep to my regular workout schedule for days afterward due to soreness.
I had fun doing this DVD, but at times felt some of the moves were repetitive. The hip flicks in particular started to become slightly boring, but all in all this is a moderate cardio/toning workout that manages to wake up your whole body. (Not just the booty!)
