In 1963, just three years out of veterinary school, Dr. John McCormack moved his wife and kids to Choctaw County, Alabama, to start his first practice. If you like James Herriot, you will love this book! I've read several other veterinarian books, but this one is the most like the Herriot books that I have read. He tells the story with self depreciative humor and what a bunch of characters he meets! He spells the words as they would be spoken there in Alabama and I find myself speaking Southern in my head! I am now reading the second in the series " A Friend of the Flock". I highly recommend this book to all who love animals and also to all who love people!
