Beautiful book for anyone who loves beans of all kinds!! Such a treasure of a cookbook!! One of my favorite authors, esp her cookbooks. Plenty of historical and humorous info on the background, origins and reasons why people all over the world love to prepare and serve beans. Very well organized, nice, easy-to-read and follow sections. Individual recipes are so creative and tasty, not to mention filling, nutritious and always affordable. Beans provide some of the most valuable plant-based protein we can eat. While the recipes are not all vegetarian or vegan, most are. Beans are naturally fast and easy to make delicious with herbs, spices and other veggies and grains. I will NEVER willingly part with this book!!

A Better Bean Book
There are many bean cookbooks out there. Apparently believing that we are tired of the old favorite recipes, many newer books have gone far afield to bring us international flavors. This cookbook strikes a nice balance. It starts with How to know Beans, the basics, & proceeds from starters to soups, salads, chilis, curries, casseroles, stovetop meals & combinations of beans & grains. The final chapter promises to bring beans to the dessert table. I enjoyed the style of writing & the recipes are easy to follow. This book is a winner!

Disappointed, expecting something different
I was expecting photos of beans to help recognize the various kinds. This book didn't have any of that. It seems to have some good relevant information...I was so disappointed in it. I have put it and my bean cooking on the "back burner" for now.
