An Old Gem
This obscure 1968 Marlon Brando movie is about a kidnap-for-random scheme that goes awry. Rita Moreno plays Brando's girlfriend, Jess Hahn is her gentle but criminal brother, and Richard Boone is the evil fourth wheel. Brando and Moreno pose as limo driver and flight attendant respectively to pull off the abduction, then whisk the little rich French girl off to a house by the ocean, from where they contact her dad to demand the ransom. Alas, the daring scheme cannot survivie the conflicts and pathologies of its unscrupulous partners-in-crime, and only one of the villainous foursome survives the violent ending. Although he's a hardened criminal and a bit of a brute toward Moreno, Brando has a soft spot for the victim, whom he tries to protect from Boone, who has a soft spot for no one. "Night..." is a great movie for Brando fans and thrillers, and 60s "Palatine" fans might enjoy seeing Boone again.
