Though the road trip starts out as a good time, the pair eventually wind up at a bar. A tipsy Thelma ends up in the parking lot of the bar with a would-be rapist. Louise shoots the man dead. The two decide that they have no choice but to go on the run. They eventually meet up with a young criminal named J.D. (Brad Pitt), whose cowboy spirit rubs off on the timid Thelma. The pair is pursued by a police officer (Harvey Keitel) sympathetic toward their plight. He chases them to the Grand Canyon, where the women make a fateful decision about their lives. Directed by Ridley Scott, Thelma & Louise brought first-time screenwriter Callie Khouri many accolades including the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. Perry Seibert, Rovi

Last summer, I took a 4,000-mile-half-way-across-country drive with a long-time family friend. She had never seen the movie, but kept dubbing her and me "Thelma & Louise." I saw the movie years ago, and have a copy myself. Partly as a gag gift, but partly so she could see what she had been referring to, I bought her this video for Christmas. Good enough to pass on!

I Male Thuderbird and Two Female T'birds
TITLE: Thelma And Louise
GENRE: Drama, adventure buddies
CAST: Geena Davis, Susan Sarandon, Harvey Keitel, Brad Pitt, Christopher McDonald and Michael Madsen
PLOT: The two female birds escape and begin making thunder. Storms are never pleasant events and these birds also experience some turbulence. One Detective chasing them believes they we're forced to act out of character when they did the things they did to get in trouble. At every turn the evidence convinces him more. But the bosses don;t agree and take extraordinary steps to track them down.
RETURN ON INVESTMENT: 9.5 of 10; This is simply one of the best pictures of the past two decades. Many famous actresses turned the roles created by new writer Callie Khouri probably as being too risky an effort, especially when being directed by that dark conjurer Ridley Scott. Well those five; Khouri, Scott, Davis, Sarandon and a green 1966 convertible Ford Thunderbird proved them wrong to doubt. This is Pitt's first major Hollywood role and he shines, ma'am.
DVD BONUS: Also a winner here! Overdubbed commentary once by Davis, Sarandon and Khouri; then commentary by Scott; Admixed deleted scenes (the real way to present them, not cut out of context); The alternate ending Scott initially envisioned which would have worked tremendously; Scott has said these DVD bonus features are his favorite part of DVD world so he puts as much into it as he can.
ADDED NOTES: This just in from review central: We cannot have a sequel even though we all want one.
