Life Of TheThunderfish
TITLE: Operation Pacific
GENRE: WWII Submarine
CAST: John Wayne, Patricia Neal, Ward Bond and Philip Carey
PLOT: Tale of how war and romance clash, of how a man's sense of duty can override all his other wants and desires. Each of the main characters has these battles. The captain gives his life to save his ship. The Nurse gives up her pride to love her man. The pilot gives up his girl to reward a friend. And the lt Commander gives up trying to be a hero so he can find love.
RETURN ON INVESTMENT: 7.5 of 10; At one time, Hollywood cranked out these Black and White (even though color was available) war movies to get the WWII vets into the theaters and to do their part in telling the stories of our heroes. This technically superior version of the genre is satisfying to those who enjoy learning what it was like to be "sealed in steel".
DVD BONUS: Brief (meaning incomplete) filmographies of Wayne, Neal and Bond(who it notes began in movies in 1929!)
ADDED NOTES: This is the only role I can find in which John "The Duke" Wayne, in over 250 roles, played a character called Duke (Lt. Cmdr. Duke Gifford of the USSS Thunderfish)
