The pet from hell!
You might say that it was movies based on his fiction that turned me into a fan of Stephen King before I ever read any of his books. When I was little, my family liked renting movies during the 1980s, the golden age of VHS tapes and Beta-Max devices (I wonder if anyone besides us dinosaurs who grew up in the 80s even knows what they WERE!! lol), and many of these titles included horror movies. Yes, we watched Stand by Me, a terrific movie, but most of the Stephen King movies we saw back then were, of course, horror movies. Among these films was Cujo, a movie that has the rare distinction of being better than the novel on which it was based, even though it was a largely faithful adaptation. The idea of being trapped in a broken down car with your young child by a huge dog that, because of rabies, has turned from a lovable pet into a hulking, horrendous killer is terrifying! Tons of fans of this frightful classic will agree with me! Dee Wallace is gripping and superb as a desperate mother who will do ANYTHING to save her child! For a great horror movie about a killer dog that is also an excellent Stephen King movie, do not miss Cujo, one of the most hair-raising Stephen King horror movies ever made!
