A glamorous look into love and need.
This is an absorbing movie, and beautifully filmed, with the leads glamorous and classy. Married Harry (Chris Cooper) has fallen in love with Kay (the beautiful Rachel McAdams) and wants to marry her but because of his reluctance to cause pain to his wife (the always watchable Patricia Clarkson), he decides to murder her. His friend, played by Pierce Brosnan, also falls for Kay and therein lies a plot of layers of deceit, of surprising twists and suspense. It is all beautifully photographed with those early 50's clothes displayed perfectly by the leads. (Pierce Brosnan's trilby should have a credit of its own!) There is a 30's feel to this movie - the way it is filmed, the deliberate dialogue, the physical grace of the 4 main actors. Chris Cooper is always a joy, as is Patricia Clarkson, but Rachel McAdams holds her own. Pierce Brosnan looks handsome and comes across as very suave and in control of any situation. Just to watch these actors moving across the screen is almost enough, so an unusual plot is an added bonus. Definitely a must.
