A propaganda film that forgets it's propaganda.
This film was released in 1999. In the 1990's gun violence in the United States was at historic levels. With an average of 60,000 gun deaths a year. That number has decreased over 55% in the following 25 years with firearm sales increasing and laws more or less staying the same. So, if you're going to view this, take it with very outdated information.
What starts as an obvious propaganda film, very quickly, forgets it is one. Following the story of several people, it intertwines their stories together and gives us a somewhat average experience. It's not until the very end that the movie remembers "Oh wait, I'm a propaganda film, I better get back to that." Thankfully it is not a film as ham-fisted (or full of lies) like Michael Moore films, but it misses its mark at trying to bring an at the time message to light getting lost in trying to be an actual movie. It's not bad, the comedy is pretty shallow, but it's an interesting film. It's worth a watch once or twice, and does have some good moments from the dynamite all star cast, all of which have suburb acting.
