I remember when The Kingdom was released, and the cast (Jamie Foxx, Chris Cooper, Jennifer Garner among many) and director (Peter Berg, of Very Bad Things and Friday Night Lights) intrigued me. Then, the movie came and went from the theaters, and I never heard much of it.
It's likely that a movie about terrorism in the Middle East isn't for everyone, and certainly some pretty horrific scenes and themes. But it's really a well put together action film, and is a very well done movie. The actors are all good - Jason Bateman is largely there for comic relief, but his character takes on a critical role towards the end and he plays it quite well.
The film isn't perfect, of course -- it alludes to deeper character studies but don't expand on them enough, and the final scene is predicated on a silly deus ex machina. But it's a GOOD film and if you are in the mood for a quality action film, you can (and probably often will) do a lot worse than The Kingdom.
