Modern Noah story that works
Steve Carell does great job portraying a new congressman who meets God and is instructed to build an ark. As he grows a beard that he can't shave off, dons a rough cloak, and spends all his time building the ark, his family is convinced he's going crazy, as do his co-workers. Without giving away the ending, the flood does indeed come, he saves the animals, as well as his family and prevents land development. Avoids being too preachy, but gets across message of greed and importance of "random acts of kindness." Some very funny laugh out loud scenes. Morgan Freeman is well cast as God, as is Jonathan Goodman as greedy, manipulative congressman. Good for ages 10 and up.
