An American woman discovers that Paris truly is the city of love -- though not in the manner she expected -- in this romantic comedy. Kate (Meg Ryan) is desperately afraid of flying, so when her fiancée Charlie (Timothy Hutton) flies to Paris on business, she must stay behind. Kate has been having second thoughts about her impending marriage, but that changes when Charlie calls her to say that the engagement is off -- he's met a beautiful French woman named Juliette (Susan Anbeh), and he's fallen in love. Determined to win Charlie back, Kate confronts her fears and hops on board the next flight to Paris, where she finds herself seated next to Luc Teyssier (Kevin Kline), a French thief who stashes some valuable jewelry in her baggage hoping to avoid capture. While Luc simply wants to get his jewels back, he pretends to be willing to help Kate find Charlie and win him back in order to keep her luggage out of harm's way, but to his surprise (as well as Kate's), the two become infatuated as they make their way through the City of Lights. Leading lady Meg Ryan also served as co-producer for this film. Mark Deming, Rovi

A chick flick? Maybe, but it can also be a date-night movie, too. I doubt you've ever see Kevin Kline quite like this before or since. This slightly greasy, smokey, Frenchman--and he will fool you into thinking he really is a Frenchman--will make you laugh and eventually warm your heart. As for Meg Ryan . . . she is charming and funny as she plays this quirky, slightly neurotic young woman. Some coming of age movies can be tedious, but as these two unlikely characters grow into themselves and therefore into one another, you will find yourself rooting for them while being thoroughly entertained in the process. The musical score for the movie is superb, and you'll be calling your travel agent after viewing the outstanding cinematography of the French countryside and coast .

Giggly Silly Fun with a romantic twist
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Meg Ryan is delightfully weird and determined to retrieve her lost love only to learn that sometimes what is thought to be "love" really isn't as much love as it is habit, or resignation. When she allows a new man into her life she begins to realize that there is more to love than the American dream of the big house with the white picket fence. She learns that her dream of a "little stone cottage" is a real place, not just in her heart. Kevin Kline is a remarkably interesting Frenchman, with a scarred past. He also has dreams and finds that sometimes the hand of fate creates amazing opportunities. These two people find love under extraordinary circumstances when they least expect it!
