More than these factors, though, it comes down to the fundamentals. Hoffmann is a tremendous talent, with absolute clarity in registers from bottom to top. Even better, she packs a great deal of variety into the seemingly commonplace nocturnal theme. Her program is balanced between harp originals and transcriptions of music by Chopin, John Field, Respighi, Clara Schumann, Ildebrando Pizzetti, and jazz pianist Fred Hersch.
