I love a mystery that is well-written and holds my attention throughout. I must say that ââ?¬Å"The Coggery,ââ?¬Â? book 2 in the Annabelle Sweeting Mystery Series, is just such a story and I recommend it to all mystery lovers as well as fans of steampunk or historical fiction. With her second book in the series, LK Billips has shown that she excels at giving readers a great story with well-rounded and interesting characters.
In ââ?¬Å"The Coggeryââ?¬Â? we are again involved in the life of Annabelle Sweeting, and it is so exciting to have her back again. Annabelle is in the middle of so much confusion as the book opensââ?¬Â¦ she has no clue what her future holds in terms of a career as well as her stormy relationship with Constable Luke Weston. While trying to deal with all this turmoil in her life she quickly finds herself in the middle of a new set of murders to solve.
In the last story, Annabelle met Nathan Starling, an orphan who tried to steal her purse. Nathan quickly became a friend to Annabelle; one that she saved from a much worse fate in his young life. Now someone is killing orphans, some who Nathan knew well from his days of picking pockets. Someone out there is killing these young people, which has Annabelle questioning why and how can they be stopped.
As Annabelle and Luke try to put their romance issues aside and work together again to help Nathan find out who is killing his friends, things get even more confusing and dangerous. Can these sleuths find out what is really going on and keep more children from being killed? And, more importantly, can Annabelle and the Constable work out their differences long enough to find these answers while keeping Nathan and the others safe? To find the answers you must read the story. I am sure you will not be disappointed.
LK Billips has given her readers another excellent installment in this series. The detail in her writing is exceptional and the reader will feel as if they are actually a participant in each descriptive scene. The world-building in the story is so vivid and compelling that it draws the reader in. Each of the characters in this story, both the main and the secondary, are well-developed. Each one has their own unique personality that adds so much to the story.
In addition, the backstories of each character are well-done without being over the top, making the reader really want to root for each and every one of them. These characters come to life in the reader�s mind, and it makes the story even more fun. There is a bit of darkness to the story as it involves the murders of children, but it is well-written and brings out a combination of anger and compassion in the reader as the twists and turns of the plot continue right up to the final moment.
ââ?¬Å"The Coggery: An Annabelle Sweeting Mysteryââ?¬Â? is an excellent story that I recommend to all readers out there who love a good mystery or simply a really well-written book. I enjoyed it very much and I think you will as well. I honestly could not get enough of these characters, and I truly hope that LK Billips continues to give the readers new stories in this series. There is so much more out there for Annabelle and the others, I am sure.
