Over the course of 3 months, my brother and I spent a lot of time and effort to research various aspects of the world around us. Starting from the creation of the universe, we researched many space-related concepts and gradually scoped in and focused on Earth, the planet we live on. We then researched both the origin and evolution of life on Earth. By tracing the evolutionary path of humans from the earliest primates to the modern day Homo sapiens, we went through various stages of life that humans have experienced from the ancient civilizations to the socioeconomic structure that our world has today. During this process, our understanding on how humans have evolved thus far on Earth has greatly increased. From there, we delved deeper into the biological development of a human, starting from a zygote to our various organ systems, and investigated different factors that influence human health and lifespan. We found out some of the previously misunderstood concepts about dieting and nutrition. Due to the epidemic of obesity in the U.S., we discussed how excessive uptake of different nutrients leads to obesity and obesity-related diseases that are responsible for the leading death of humans. Finally, we explored the pandemic of COVID-19 by focusing on its origin, infection, and prevention. Most importantly, during this learning process, it gave us the opportunities to think about the human relationship with nature.Now that we have finished this summer project, I hope that we can pass on our organized findings into this special book in order to share with you our understanding of the world.
