Even though some people may fail to recognize Him, the Holy Spirit is alive, well, and working in the world today. He moves in the lives of people, sometimes without them even being aware of it. Many people live their lives today as if the Holy Spirit does not exist while the Father and the Son are ignored in others' lives. There is one God, and He is God the Father, God the Son, whose name is Jesus, and God the Holy Spirit. Our God rules and reigns alone over all things. We have an adversary, who is also God's enemy, called Satan, who is the devil, that Jesus defeated through His death, burial, and resurrection. The devil is a defeated foe, and we are to enforce his defeat in our lives and in this world through the power of the Holy Spirit. We are the ones God has not defeated in this battle, and the battle we face is twofold. We must enforce the defeat the devil received at the cross and defeat our own ungodly desires and sin nature that became a part of man due to man's rebellion in the garden. This battlefield is located in us, in the mind and in the flesh, or as some would say in the soul and in the world. The Holy Spirit has come to help us live victoriously both in the earth and the spirit realm and accomplish the will of the Father in our lives while we are in this world. Our victory begins when we choose to submit our will to the will of the heavenly Father and follow Jesus. The Holy Spirit has been active in this world since before the creation, in Genesis 1:2, the Bible says, "And the earth was without form, and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters." In the Hebrew, it gives the idea of the Holy Spirit brooding over creation, similar to the way a hen hatches her eggs. In many places in the Bible we, find the Holy Spirit at work in the affairs of God's people. However, Jesus, the only begotten Son of the Father, was the first to teach how the Holy Spirit was to function in the lives of believers, to bring to God's people of this world the gifts, fruits, power, and anointing of the Father. He does that by assisting us to become more like our heavenly Father. The more that we know about who the Holy Spirit is and how He operates, the easier it is for us to yield to and move with Him and be changed by His power so God will be glorified. This is achieved by His will being done, in our lives, and the lives of those around us. The purpose of the working of the Holy Spirit is to bring us into all truth, into the presence of the Father, and meet the needs of others as Jesus commanded. We must always remember people's greatest need is to have a personal relationship with their heavenly Father, and that begins when they are born again by becoming followers of Jesus. The Holy Spirit was sent to guide us into the very presence of the glory of God, to meet with Him in the secret place of the Most High. In the Old Testament, before the high priest could enter into the holy of holies in the tabernacle, he had to purify himself and dress in sacred clothing to meet the Almighty. Today we are to clean ourselves by repentance then clothe ourselves with the garments of praise and worship to enter into the secret place of the Most High God. So let us see what the Bible says about the Holy Spirit, who He is and how He operates in the world and us. More importantly, how we can come to recognize and respond to God, the Holy Spirit working in our lives. The purpose of our lives should be to bring glory to our God and meet the needs of others. If we chose to live a life that way, we will find it to have been a life of purpose, peace, and joy.
