But there are sinister forces at work, and they want what the teens have: pieces of a quantum device that controls the flow of time itself. Kevin used to be a nice guy, but the death of his father has left him the subject of pity at school, and he's angry at the world for just about everything. Most of all, he's angry that he can't share his secret that he's responsible for his dad's death and doesn't deserve anyone's pity. When he steals a piece of the QUINN device from a second-hand store, he doesn't expect to find himself on the run for his life with his former best friend, Iain, and wallflower Lisa. QUINN, the Quantum User Interface Neural Networker, has encoded itself to their DNA and transported them across the universe to the home of an eccentric alien who calls himself Mercufosa the Magician. The last living Resubian, Mercufosa knows more about the device than he's willing to tell them, but there's more at stake than just their lives. Discovering they're the targets of a secret organization known as the Shadow Sect who will stop at nothing to obtain the device and take control of the entire universe, Kevin, Lisa and Iain need to put aside their differences and work together with Mercufosa to learn to use QUINN. The fate of Earth and the vast reaches of the universe depend on it.
