Pero dos personas han desaparecido con historias poco cre�bles en Poitiers: el Comisario Dubois, uno de los primeros afrodescendientes en ocupar un cargo de esa importancia, y el hijo del Alcalde, y ambos supuestamente hab�an huido y dejado todo persiguiendo a una joven hippie. Poitiers significa un moj�n oscuro en la vida Edith: la b�squeda de una superficial y mundana felicidad para sanar las heridas de la Guerra de Vietnam, el deseo de dejar de preocuparse por los dem�s para centrarse en s� misma... una hija que concibi� y supo desde el instante de tenerla en brazos que era la madre menos capacitada del mundo para darle una crianza decente. Un Club privado de caza cercano a la cuidad que le vio crecer parece otorgar por un precio elevado y s�lo a los muy pudientes todo tipo de lujos y excesos que la sociedad mirar�a con desprecio si fueran divulgados. Y sin embargo, la polic�a local parece mirar hacia otro lado. Edith no puede permitirse ese lujo.
