Construye un relato �nico con su singular, brillante y derrochador estilo conceptista, pleno de figuras, comparaciones ins�litas y crudas descripciones de gran carga expresionista. Su inter�s no es tanto el dibujo de los personajes como de las circunstancias, aqu� ridiculizadas al extremo. La vida del busc�n narra los vanos esfuerzos de ascensi�n social de un simple barbero segoviano de origen humilde. Describe con sarcasmo las desgracias que le acontecen hasta su partida a las Indias. All�, como se apunta al final de la novela, le fue todav�a peor, seg�n se ver� en la segunda parte, pues nunca mejora su estado quien muda solamente de lugar y no de vida y de costumbres. Quevedo nunca escribi� la mencionada segunda parte, pero con esta obra breve cierra el ciclo de las grandes novelas picarescas espa�olas.
