This is more than a small travel report. It delves into the local culture and history, giving the reader all the smells, tastes and visuals of a visit to the Alhambra, as well as other places in that part of Spain. The author, a world-famous writer, makes a several month journey there. To the modern traveler, it can augment any modern travel guide. To the serious history buff, it can augment treatises on this area. For the reader interested in the latter, I recommend "Ornament of the World", by Maria Rosa Menocal.
