En 1935, Edmond Charlot, un joven de veinte a�os, regresa a Argel desde Par�s con la idea de fundar una librer�a y una editorial. Su min�scula librer�a, que bautiza como Las Verdaderas Riquezas, se convierte en lugar de encuentro de aspirantes a escritores y de figuras como Antoine de Saint-Exup�ry y Andr� Gide. All� publica tambi�n el primer texto de un autor desconocido: Albert Camus. Pero Charlot ignora que dedicar la vida a los libros no le eximir� de verse zarandeado por los infortunios de la historia: en v�speras de la segunda guerra mundial, una revuelta est� a punto de estallar en Argelia. En 2017, Ryad tiene la misma edad que Charlot en sus comienzos, pero a �l no le interesa la literatura.
