Als schlie�lich dem Apollon-Priester Chryses die Tochter zur�ckgegeben wird, fordert Agamemnon, Oberbefehlshaber der Achaier, Ersatz f�r seine Beute und ger�t so in Konflikt mit Achilleus, der sich in der Folge ebenfalls entehrt sieht und sich aus den K�mpfen zur�ckzieht Homer gilt als Autor der Ilias und Odyssee und damit als erster Dichter des Abendlandes. Weder sein Geburtsort noch das Datum seiner Geburt oder seines Todes sind zweifelsfrei bekannt. Es ist nicht einmal sicher, dass es Homer �berhaupt gegeben hat.
