Die Auswirkungen auf das Immunsystem wurden bereits zu Beginn der Pandemie gut dokumentiert, aber es herrschte Unklarheit dar�ber, wie sich COVID-19-Infektionen speziell auf das Immunsystem auswirken und welche Folgen sie w�hrend und nach der Infektion haben k�nnten. Zu Beginn der Pandemie gab es zwei Haupttheorien zu den Ursachen der schweren Erkrankungen und Todesf�lle durch COVID-19: eine �beraktive Immunantwort und ein geschw�chtes Immunsystem. Der erste Faktor wurde mit einem �berm��ig aktiven Immunsystem in Verbindung gebracht. Schon fr�h wurde festgestellt, dass viele Personen mit schweren COVID-19-Erkrankungen schlie�lich ein ARDS (akutes Atemnotsyndrom) entwickelten, das dem ARDS �hnelte, das durch das Zytokinfreisetzungssyndrom (CRS) und die sekund�re h�mophagozytische Lymphohistiozytose (sHLH) ausgel�st wird, die bei Patienten mit SARS-CoV und MERS-CoV auftreten (auch eine h�ufige Nebenwirkung bei Krebspatienten, die sich einer CAR-T-Zell-Therapie unterziehen).
