Le cisti pi� comunemente riscontrate sono le cisti radicolari di origine infiammatoria o le cisti dentigere. Altre cisti sono meno frequenti e possono presentare difficolt� diagnostiche a causa delle loro caratteristiche diverse. Queste lesioni mostrano generalmente una crescita lenta ed espansiva e in alcuni casi sono associate a una marcata distruzione ossea e a recidive. Al giorno d'oggi, le cisti odontogene sono comunemente segnalate nella fascia d'et� adulta e possono essere individuate precocemente attraverso l'esame orale di routine presso gli studi dentistici generali. Le cisti odontogene possono essere sintomatiche o asintomatiche e vengono identificate durante le indagini radiografiche di routine. Esse insorgono in seguito a cause patogene infiammatorie o di sviluppo associate all'epitelio dell'apparato di formazione del dente. Le cisti odontogene pi� frequenti sono le cisti periapicali (PC), le cisti dentigere, le cisti residue e le cheratocisti odontogene (OKC).
