I use this book to tutor high school students who aren't quite ready for Algebra. It does a wonderful job of reviewing the basics that are needed before moving on to Algebra - as well as introducing simple Algebra concepts a step at a time (a single concept in each chapter). I especially appreciate that integers are covered early in the text. As a result of this early introduction, the skills are used over and over again dealing w/ fractions, decimals, etc. as the book goes on -- causing the student to reinforce the integer rules throughout the year. (Many high school texts don't do this!)
