Jahrhunderts so faszinierend, dass der franzosische Astronom Nicolas Louis de Lacaille sie neben einem guten Dutzend weiterer wissenschaftlicher Instrumente als namensgebend fur Sternbilder am sudlichen Himmel nutzte. Diese Sternbilder bilden den Hintergrund fur eine Ausstellung, die sich der Sammlungsgeschichte des Mathematisch-Physikalischen Salons und der Wissenschaftsgeschichte Dresdens im 18. Jahrhundert widmet. Der Salon wurde im Dresdner Zwinger eingerichtet und besitzt viele Instrumente, die Lacaille Anregung fur seine Sternbilder boten.
