En esta Tesis Doctoral se describen arquitecturas neuronales que permiten la segmentaci�n perceptual y el reconocimiento de im�genes de textura y color sobre Unidades de Procesamiento Gr�fico (GPUs). El procesamiento de prop�sito general sobre GPU (GPGPU) se ha revelado en los �ltimos a�os como uno de las f�rmulas m�s atractivas para el procesamiento en paralelo de altas prestaciones y bajo coste. Todas las arquitecturas neuronales desarrolladas en esta Tesis Doctoral utilizan la GPU como plataforma hardware, proporcionando una velocidad de procesamiento decenas de veces superior a la obtenida con implementaciones an�logas sobre CPU. La utilizaci�n de este hardware para la segmentaci�n y el reconocimiento, etapas fundamentales en visi�n artificial, hace adecuadas las arquitecturas dise�adas para aplicaciones con elevados requerimientos de tiempo. Estas aplicaciones de visi�n artificial incluyen la monitorizaci�n de procesos de producci�n industrial, la clasificaci�n y b�squeda de contenidos sobre bases de datos multimedia, el an�lisis y segmentaci�n de im�genes a�reas de alta resoluci�n o sistemas de v�deo-vigilancia e interfaces hombre-m�quina.
