Diese von der Analystin Mary Weeker geschilderte Situation der Bauindustrie k�nnte sich mit Hilfe von Electronic Commerce (e-commerce) bald �ndern. Anbieter von e-commerce Anwendungen f�r die Baubranche versprechen Kosteneinsparungen von 23 Prozent und eine Verk�rzung der Bauzeiten um 15 Prozent. Es stellt sich daher die Frage, inwieweit e-commerce in Bauunternehmen umgesetzt werden kann bzw. bereits umgesetzt wird, und welche Entwicklungspotenziale bestehen. Diese Fragen sind Gegenstand der vorliegenden Arbeit. Gang der Untersuchung: Der elektronische Gesch�ftsverkehr zwischen Unternehmen, der in dieser Arbeit vorgestellt wird, nutzt das Internet als �bertragungsmedium zwischen r�umlich getrennten Rechnern. Daher werden in Kapitel 2 zun�chst die Grundlagen des Internet erl�utert. In Kapitel 3 werden die Grundlagen des elektronischen Gesch�ftsverkehrs dargelegt und es wird deutlich gemacht, wo die Potenziale von e-commerce liegen. Der Nutzen, der durch die Anwendung von e-commerce f�r alle Beteiligten eines Gesch�ftsprozesses entsteht, soll gezeigt werden. Die Umsetzung von e-commerce vollzieht sich auf mehreren Stufen. Sowohl die Komplexit�t der Anwendung als auch der Nutzen, der f�r das Unternehmen entsteht, nehmen dabei zu. Daher wird in diesem Kapitel ein Phasenmodell vorgestellt, das die schrittweise �ffnung eines Unternehmens f�r den elektronischen Handel beschreibt. Kapitel 4 geht auf die Besonderheiten der Baubranche ein. Dabei wird erl�utert, in welchem Umfang e-commerce bereits Anwendung findet und an welcher Stelle im Phasenmodell Bauunternehmen heute stehen.
