The principle behind these interactive pictures is exactly the same. However, the system uses auto-stereograms - hundreds of repeated dots or patterns - instead of a stereoscope. Plotted by computer, these send left and right perspective images which are combined by the brain, tricking it into seeing a three-dimensional object.
